Dear Artists, Photographers and Chamber Members,
The Wellfleet Chamber of Commerce is seeking paintings and photographs to be considered by the general membership for the cover of our 96-page 2012 Vacation Guide. We are providing specifications and guidelines that we think you will find useful in creating artwork.
All artwork must be delivered to the Wellfleet Branch of Cape Cod Five-Cents Savings Bank, Main Street, between Tuesday, September 12 and Friday, September 30, 8:30 AM - 4:15 PM, M-F. Please remember to sign in on the Sign-In Sheet available at the bank and provide your name, address, telephone number, the title(s) of your artwork, media, and gallery affiliation, if any. On Saturday, October 1, the works will be hung at the Wellfleet Public Library, 55 West Main Street and will remain on display until Thursday, October 20. All pieces submitted may be picked up at the bank beginning Monday, October 24. Remaining artwork will be returned to the Wellfleet Branch of Cape Cod Five for pick up during business hours after October 31. Works will be stored in the bank’s lower Conference Room. that artists are responsible for retrieving works once the exhibit closes.
All submitted works must be framed and ready to hang. Due to the library hanging system all works must have a wire on the back for hanging. Paintings without wire will not be hung. Wet paintings will not be accepted. Entries are limited to 2 painting per artist. Artists cannot be selected two years in a row.
Selection will be done by secret ballot. The ballots will be tabulated on or about October 15. The artist submitting the winning 2012 Guidebook cover will be notified shortly thereafter. The winning work will be on display at the library during OysterFest weekend. This is the nineth year that the general chamber membership will be invited to vote for a new cover selection and a good turnout is anticipated.
The subject of the artwork must be an easily recognizable Wellfleet scene. The photograph or painting chosen will be reproduced using a 4-color separation process. The cover will be either a front cover, 8-1/2" high x 5-1/2" wide, or a wrap-around cover, 8-1/2" high x 11" wide. Some cropping may be necessary.
If used as a front cover, the words "Wellfleet on Cape Cod 2012" will be placed in the upper third of the cover (artwork). If used as a wrap-around, the work must be suitable for a fold at, or near, the center of the picture, and the main focus of the art must be in the right half of the picture. The words "Wellfleet on Cape Cod 2012" will be placed in the upper right quadrant, and space for our logo, postage and mailing information will be in the left half of the cover (art work).
32,000+ copies of our guidebook are printed and distributed nation-wide. The guidebook is available online at [Link]www.wellfleetchamber.com and also locally, all year, at member businesses and the Information Booth in S. Wellfleet. Numerous guidebook requests are processed throughout the off-season in response to email, telephone and written requests.
Thank you very much for your time and effort dedicated to this project. We believe that Wellfleet produces the #1 Vacation Guide on Cape Cod and that the use of original artwork on our cover significantly promotes Wellfleet as the ”Art Gallery Town.”
