Alternative Energy Committee Charge
The Committee is charged to evaluate the economic and practical feasibility of operating a wind-powered generator on Town property, primarily to offset municipal energy demands. Activities undertaken under this charge may include such things as:
1. Installation of one or more test towers to evaluate the wind resources (1 year);
2. Evaluation and recommendation of appropriate equipment based on energy demands and water production needs;
3. Conducting a financial analysis based on current and projected future market;
4. Identifying demand cycles of municipal facilities and evaluation of potentials to connect to wind power;
5. Identifying necessary equipment and costs for facility connections and metering;
6. Recommending options and legal requirements for use or sale of excess power generated;
7. Exploration of the downstream potential for solving intermittency problems inherent to power generation from wind resources.
The Committee will report to the Board of Selectmen on findings of the study and shall make recommendations for future action, including components of system design.
